Why Grind the Stump
Don't Let a Stump Undo a Good Removal
A leftover stump is more than an eyesore — it's a tripping hazard, a magnet for termites and fungus, and it can keep sending up new shoots for years. JM Tree Services grinds stumps of any size down below grade, so you can replant, reseed, pave or landscape right over the spot.
We use professional-grade grinding equipment capable of handling everything from a small ornamental stump to a massive old oak base, and we always leave the area clean and ready for whatever comes next.
- Ground below grade — ready for replanting or paving
- Handles stumps of any size or age
- Wood chips available for mulch, or hauled away
- Fast turnaround — most stumps done same day
What's Included
Our Stump Grinding Services Cover
From a single backyard stump to a whole lot of them, here's what's included in every stump grinding visit.
Stump Grinding
Our grinders chew the stump — and the visible surface roots — down below ground level, so the spot can be reseeded, mulched or landscaped over without a bump in the yard.
Pro Equipment
We run professional-grade stump grinders, not rented consumer equipment — meaning faster jobs, cleaner results, and the power to handle even large, established stumps in one visit.
Any Size Stump
From small ornamental trees to massive old oaks and pines, we have the equipment and experience to grind stumps of any diameter, including multiple stumps on the same property.
Eco-Friendly Disposal
The wood chips produced by grinding can be left on-site as free mulch for your garden beds, or we'll haul them away completely — whichever works best for your property.

FAQ
Stump Grinding Questions, Answered
How long does stump grinding take?
Most residential stumps are ground in under an hour. Larger stumps, multiple stumps or difficult access can extend the job — we'll give you a realistic time estimate up front.
Does grinding remove the entire root system?
Grinding removes the stump and the visible surface roots down below grade, which is enough to prevent regrowth and allow replanting or landscaping. Deep roots eventually decompose naturally underground and don't need to be excavated.
Can I plant a new tree in the same spot?
Usually, yes — though we recommend waiting a bit for the ground to settle, and in some cases planting slightly off from the original spot to avoid old root decay affecting the new tree.
What can I do with the leftover wood chips?
Wood chips make excellent mulch for garden beds and around trees — we're happy to leave them on-site for you to use, or haul them away if you'd rather not deal with the cleanup.
Do you grind stumps without removing the tree first?
Absolutely — if you already have an old stump on your property from a previous removal, we can grind it as a standalone service, no tree removal required.
